MIL-STD-1773 was written only as a guideline to the implementation of a 1553 bus in Fiber Optic media and only addresses issues related to this implementation. All protocol and performance issues not affected by the new media are carried forward without alteration in order to maintain backwards compatibility with 1553B terminal hardware.
